Task for this week was designing mechanical sculpture. For designing something like this, it is usefull
to know what types of joints, links and gears exist. As well as other basic mechanical principles.
I decided that i will design Geneva drive. Geneva drive is a gear mechanism that translates continuous rotation,
to intermitten rotatry motion.
Designing Geneva drive is not that hard task, but you have to abide some rules. Simple to follow
tutorial, which i also followed can be found Here.
Here is how the 2D sketch looked like:
Than i extruded individual parts. Than i decided, that i wanted to add spur gear, to add motor drive later. I used Spur Gear Add-In, which does all the designing for me. Its not as versitile, but its not bad for simple designs like this one. I added small pins that will fit in the Geneva drive, so that it can be turned.
Than i decided i wanted to add small arrow on the Geneva wheel. This is how to final design turned out:
And this is how it looks like in the real world assembled. It works pretty well.
